Themed area designed by the Finnish games developer Rovio Entertainment is attracting global interest.
The world’s first Angry Birds Land, a themed attraction based on the global smash hit mobile game, will at the Särkänniemi Adventure Park in Tampere, Finland. The official opening will be on 8 June when the whole area is completed.
International interest in the opening has been huge, according to Thomas Lundström, Senior Graphic Designer at Rovio Entertainment Ltd., who has designed Angry Birds Land. At least one ardent fan is expected to attend the opening from Hong Kong. The area will include rides, amusement park games, and ‘Magic Places’, where the physical and the virtual gaming worlds meet. Angry Birds Land has been specifically designed for small children and families.
People eager for a glimpse of the covered construction area have even approached the site across the frozen Näsijärvi lake this winter, according to Miikka Seppälä, CEO of Särkänniemi Adventure Park. “We wanted to create a unique themed area and associate it with a strong and well-known brand. The Angry Birds characters were born in Finland but are known worldwide by people of all ages. This is a perfect fit for our Adventure Park,” says Seppälä.
In February, Angry Birds Rio won "Best Mobile App For Consumers" at the Global Mobile Awards in Barcelona. Rovio was also named as the #1 developer of 2012 by Pocket Gamer, based on several metrics including critical acclaim, sales, and business innovation.
